Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Controller serves a critical role on the finance and administration team and is responsible for coordinating the administrative and operational activities associated with the collection and disbursements of funds; accounting, financial reporting and budgeting of all financial transactions of the College, which has a general fund operating budget in excess of $45 million and a balance sheet of $400 million. The Controller establishes and monitors appropriate procedures, processes, and systems to assure that the College’s financial records and financial statements accurately reflect the financial performance and resources of the College.

The Controller ensures the College’s compliance with external requirements including, but not limited to, financial reporting and accounting standards; state and federal tax laws; federal grant and cost accounting standards; accountable plan rules; data and information security. The Controller manages debt administration and compliance activities and oversees endowment accounting and cash management processes.

The Controller will provide leadership and direction for the configuration and maintenance of the chart of accounts and enterprise information systems that support all business processes. The Controller will ensure appropriate internal controls are in place; lead the development, review, and implementation of business processes to support operational efficiency and business continuity; and lead change and training on business processes for the college.

The Controller supervises a team of four staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the administrative and operational activities associated with the collection and disbursement of funds and the recording of all financial transactions of the College;
  • Establish and monitor procedures, processes, and systems to support finance functions and strong internal controls over financial and business operations;
  • Manage compliance with external reporting requirements, such as accounting standards; state and federal tax laws; grant requirements; debt compliance; and data security;
  • Direct the annual financial statement preparation and audit process;
  • Lead the development, execution, and monitoring of the annual operational budget;
  • Support management reporting needs, including the development and monitoring of key performance indicators and performance reports for business functions;
  • Collaborate with the Treasurer’s team, Information Technology staff, and others to identify and evaluate technology needs to run the business of the College;
  • Serve as training coordinator for the finance team to ensure training on business processes is delivered to faculty, staff, and students in an appropriate method, dependent upon specific processes or topics;
  • Champion continuous improvement and drive innovation in financial and administrative operations.
  • Support and collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer in the development of strategic vision of the college.
  • Perform analyses and ad hoc reports as needed;

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years in positions of increasing responsibility is required, 168体育平台下载_足球即时比分-注册|官网er education experience in accounting or financial management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is required.
  • Demonstrate strong computer, analytical, and business process skills.
  • Excellent leadership and organization/project management skills required.
  • Ability to collaborate with the college community, including senior management, faculty and staff members, students, volunteers, and third-party business partners and vendors.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on assignments and projects, while preserving confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement philosophy and change management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and use of administrative systems required.
